All good things come to those who wait!

March 23rd, 2019

Please read this wonderful story!
My Father Arthur was involved in a hit and run on his bicycle back in January and was out of action for almost two months.
Arthur's birthday was in January and i always struggle with what to get him! I bought him a card and wrote in it "All good things come to those who wait."
Back in 1959 Arthur was cycling past Mick Ingley outside his home in Hurgil road, Richmond on his fixed wheel bike, when Mick stopped him and asked him if he wanted a proper bike!
Arthur said "I've got a proper bike, a fixed wheel bike is a proper bike!" Mick said "no you want a bike with gears, would you like this Freddie Grubb!"
Arthur replied "No i can't afford it!" Mick then replied "I don't want any money for it, you can have it, as long as you look after it!"
Arthur was over the moon to accept Mick's offer, he then enjoyed many thousands of miles on his Freddie Grubb bike. Until a cycling friend making a come back in 1973 didn't have a bike.
So Arthur gave him his Freddie Grubb bike on loan. Mistakenly he rode it for a few months and sold it!!..........Arthur never saw it again!! And couldn't forget about his promise he'd made to Mick Ingley to look after it!!
Then in 2018 a Gentleman walked in to our shop with a Freddie Grubb bike and asked "can you please value this bike?"
The bike looked really worse for wear (See all pictures) So Arthur valued it and asked him if he was going to sell it to give him first chance.
Arthur had a gut feeling it could have been his old Freddie Grubb bike. The Gentleman then left the shop and returned two weeks later and offered to sell it to Arthur.
Then Arthur checked the frame number against his records to find it was The Freddie Grubb bike!!!! Back in his hands after 45 years!!!!
Whilst my Father was in recovery (Not at work) we restored his Freddie Grubb frame and fork.
Arthur walked back in to work 23rd of March 2019 and I said to him "come with me Dad I've something to show you, all good things come to those who wait! Happy birthday, I love you!"
